In the past, large financial institutions
abused the privilege of receiving customer data by selling or sharing
the information with other businesses. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act was
passed to protect you, the customer, and your personal data from being
used beyond the original purpose without your consent. High Plains Bank
has never used customer information beyond the original intended
purpose. We have provided these Standards as part of our commitment to
you in honoring this privilege.
1. Customer's Right to Privacy
High Plains Bank recognizes that customers have and expect a right to
privacy. We are committed to keeping your personal financial
information private and secure. Procedures are in place to protect your
data at all times.
2. Use and Retention of Data Collected
We collect information from you, our customer, in various ways, which
may be used to provide you with better customer service and products.
Examples include:
· Applications for
products and services we offer;
· Transactions we handle on
your behalf;
· Other information from
service providers such as credit reporting agencies.
3. Maintaining Information
We strive to keep our information about our customers accurate and
complete. If any information is misstated or erroneous, please contact
us immediately and we will work to correct it. You have our word that
we will address any concerns quickly.
4. Employee Access to Information
We train our employees annually on the importance of confidentiality of
all customer information. Each new employee is also trained on these
standards. Employees can access customer information only if they have
a specific business purpose for doing so. Employees who breach this
confidence will be subject to disciplinary action.
5. Protection of Information
We are committed to keeping the confidentiality of personal records. We
have several methods in place to protect the security of this
information and we will improve methods of security as technology
improves.
6. Disclosure of Information to Others
We may provide information about your account to merchants who want to
verify that you have funds to cover a check. We will not reveal any
other information about you or your business with us to others outside
our bank unless:
· The information
is necessary to help complete a transaction you requested;
· You provide us with written
authorization to reveal the information;
· The law requires or permits
us to disclose the information; or
· We have told you this
information may be disclosed and you have been given a chance
to decline its disclosure.
7. Business Relationships with Third
Parties
If we engage in business with a third party to provide services to our
customers, we do so only with a written agreement that they adhere to
our privacy rules. We do not and will not sell or offer customer
information to any third party.
8. Privacy Disclosure to Customers
We will tell you annually about our privacy standards. It is important
to us that you understand what information we gather from you, how it
is used, and how it is protected. We will continue to maintain systems
to protect the security and integrity of your personal information.
